The industrial production of "carbonized wood" originated in Europe in the 1990s. Its typical production processes include: Thermal-wood, Retification, PLATO-process and oil-Treatment, etc. Carbonized wood production equipment at home and abroad can be divided into two categories: kiln type and tank type. Each has its own characteristics, but it has common requirements, and its process also has common characteristics.

Requirements for "carbonized wood" production equipment

        Whether it is kiln type or tank type "carbonized wood" production equipment, it should meet the following four requirements:

        1) The equipment should have a strong thermal power, so that the medium in the kiln (or tank) can quickly rise to a temperature of 180°C or even 220°C. To do this, first the temperature of the heat medium should be able to reach 240-270°C. Therefore, heat transfer oil is often used as the heat medium. Secondly, the flow rate of the heat transfer oil supplied to the radiator in the kiln (tank) should be large enough, and the pipeline should be thick enough. Its flow rate is about 5 times of the steam flow rate of a conventional drying kiln with the same capacity. Third, the heat dissipation area of the radiator in the kiln (tank) should be large enough, about 5 times that of a conventional drying kiln with the same capacity.

         2) The air velocity flowing through the kiln (tank) internal material stack should be high. The high-speed airflow is conducive to the heat transfer from the radiator to the material pile, and at the same time can ensure uniform drying and "charring".

         3) The shell and the equipment in the kiln (tank) should be corrosion-resistant, heat-insulating, and air-tight. When wood is carbonized, the temperature of the medium in the kiln (tank) is very high, and acidic substances such as acetic acid are released from the wood, which is corrosive to the equipment. Therefore, the carbonization equipment is made of stainless steel or aluminum, and steel is not used in the kiln (tank) as much as possible. . In addition, the requirements for heat preservation and air tightness are higher than those of conventional kilns.

         4) The kiln (tank) should be filled with superheated water vapor or inert gas, basically free of air, so as to protect the wood, prevent fire, and help ensure the strength of the wood. Therefore, in addition to providing sufficient water vapor, the airtightness of the kiln (tank) is particularly important.
